I am so excited to introduce you guys to Chelsea Bowers! Chelsea is hard working, kind, and a thoughtful friend. Her dedication to her job, her family, and her community is something I truly admire about her. She currently works in homeless outreach with City Net and that has her working all kinds of crazy hours. Chelsea is truly one of the busiest people I know and I believe that’s why she is the perfect candidate to talk about slowing down and sitting still. Quarantine has hit us all in different ways and for Chelsea and myself I know it has been a challenge to slow down but honestly has been SO good for our souls. Today we talk about what it means to truly rest, how hurry and relationships just don’t mix, and what it means to carve out time to sit with God.
“Process everything you’re going through because it is real and it takes a toll on a person. You are not going to be able to help people fully if you yourself are not fully present “
“I eventually hit that point where, okay I’m only half way here with everything that I’m doing, so let’s just take a pause”
“Some would say ‘you missed and opportunity’ … but nope, it’s okay to rest because you need to take time for yourself”
“I’m in the hustle while I’m sleeping and that’s not really rest”
“Jesus calls us to take moments to breathe in silence with him and I don’t do that enough with him at all”
“Moments change lives, whether that’s your own life or the life of someone else, but minutes. Those are just seconds on a clock. There’s nothing to it”
“There are books to read, landscapes to be walked, friends to be with, life to be fully lived, this new epidemic of distraction is our civilization’s specific weakness” (Andrew Sullivan in John Mark Comer’s The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry)
“Hurry and Love are like Oil and Water – they just don’t mix”
