This is something I’m still teaching myself daily. I crave to be near God because I know that when I am near Him I am most like myself. I am kinder, and more patient, and conscious of the feelings of others. When I am away from God I am more stressed out, anxious, irritable, and self centered. I pray that these words and verses help you seek God in your everyday life.
Psalm 34 is titled: Taste and See That the Lord is Good but how do we even do that? Sometimes it can feel like we can’t catch a break, that our world is falling apart as we speak, and that God is no where to be found. I want to challenge and encourage you all to really take a closer look. Psalm 34 says “seek the Lord” three times and that’s not including the three other times where the word “seek” is not used but is implied. It’s important for us as Christ followers to SEEK the Lord. What does that mean?
If the word is living, and the word is infallible, AND it was given to us in order to figure out WHO God is and WHAT we should be doing with our lives, then shouldn’t we read it daily? YES! The answer to that is a resounding yes.
devotionals are a great tool if reading the Bible by itself seems daunting! Start with one of these and then work your way to reading the Bible without it. Either way, as long as you are READING THE WORD OF GOD, you are moving in the right direction.
2. COMMUNITY / BIBLE STUDY
Girl, you need to be in community! If you don’t have that at the moment, here is a good place to start:
Let’s take a second to talk about WHO God is. David is the author of all the Psalms and I love how honest and vulnerable he is with God but I also love his descriptions of who God is. Sometimes I think we get caught up in who we are in relation to God but ultimately, who God is will inform us on how we should act and who we should be. Here are a few verses that have helped remind me of who God is:
Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears - This verse reminds me that God is a rescuer. - He is also interactive and our relationship with Him is NOT one sided!
Psalm 34:10 The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing - God also gives us ALL we need - This verse reminds me that God is a provider.
Psalm 34: 16-17 The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. - I love this verse because it explains another important piece of God's character: He is actively against those who do evil, again rescuing us --> He is our savior! - God also listens to us and again rescues us from all of our troubles. The key thing in all of these verses is for us to actively participate in our relationship with the Lord. Read, pray, gather in community and SEEK the Lord. He will, protect, listen, provide, rescue, and LOVE us, but it is our job not to miss the way He is choosing to do that in our lives! These verses help remind us of who God is, so we too should go and be imitators of God in order to encourage others in their faith. Seek the Lord and KNOW that He is good, now and forever!
